A critical panorama and an environmental drift that must be stopped as soon as possible. Reducing plastic consumption is undoubtedly a very important point. Saying goodbye to single-use containers, committing ourselves to always carry our own sustainable bottle. Or reduce the consumption of plastic bags, using alternatives such as paper or cloth bags.
In Cool Bottles we have already taken that step. Our packaging is completely responsible. You will only find cardboard and a 100% compostable and 100% biodegradable bag made only with corn. Isn't it cool? It's a statement of intent. We can say it louder, but not clearer. We have to break with plastic now.
With our corn bags you can do many things. You can reuse them and give them a second life to store or transport whatever you want. Although they are very resistant, with use they can break. What do we do then? It's easy. Throw them in the organic matter containers. Unlike conventional plastic bags, bags made from corn become compost and not waste. PLA is poly lactic acid. A super versatile material that is made from 100% renewable resources such as corn, a product rich in starch. This acid has similar or even better characteristics than plastics known as PET derived from petroleum. That's why this wonderful biodegradable polymer made from renewable resources is already being used in a lot of places, such as making cool bags like ours. Too good to be true? Yes, PLA is great for our planet.
Do you know the difference between biodegradable and compostable?
These two terms can be confusing, but relax, we give you all the keys to avoid getting confused with these two concepts.
Biodegradable bags are those that, under certain environmental conditions of temperature and humidity, are transformed into water, carbon dioxide and biomass. In other words, they decompose. Thanks to this oxidation process, they regenerate in the carbon cycle and do not leave any type of residue.
Compostable bags are also biodegradable, as they decompose due to the action of biological agents such as plants, animals, microorganisms and fungi. The difference lies in two very specific aspects. The first is time. They decompose much faster than biodegradable bags only. They can take between 8 and 12 weeks to leave no trace. And the second is the fact that they become compost. Thanks to these materials we close the cycle of organic matter, avoiding soil contamination or emissions caused by the transformation of waste.
And between recycling and recycling?
This difference is much easier, but no less important. We call recycling the process to which we submit a used material to recover it totally or partially. That is to say, when we throw a conventional plastic container into the yellow container or a glass bottle into the green one, we are contributing to recycle that material, preventing it from becoming 100% waste.
Within this term we could also talk about bags made from recycled material. This type of material is obtained after a previous recycling treatment.
